WV State Search and Rescue Exercise - New River Gorge - Sept 24-26

Hi...

This weekend wilderness search and rescue teams from across the state and the WV Civil Air Patrol will be converging on the New River Gorge for the annual WVSAR Full Scale Exercise. The exercise is hosted by the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the National Park Service. Teams will be confronted with a realistic scenario of amissing person and with the assistance of Hilltop Care Center in Glen Jean, WV this year's event focuses on Alzheimer's wanderers. The exercise begins Friday, September 24 and will continue through Saturday evening. GeoPro Solutions will also be on hand for teams to try out there GPS-Satellite messaging system and an WV Army National Guard Blackhawk will be demonstrating its patient hoist capabilities.

Driving Directions from Rt. 19: Take Rt. 16 Exit going East at light in Fayetteville. Go approximately ¾ mile to light in town just past Courthouse and turn right onto Maple Avenue.

The first street on your left will be Harvey street located next to United Bank turn here and the church sets on the right, parking is located directly behind the bank lot.

Amenities: There are shower facilities, bathrooms and cots for approximately 40 individuals at last count they gave me. Since meals will be provided by the Red Cross at another location there will be no onsite feeding scheduled. The building is handicap accessible.

AGENDA (Subject to change)
Day 0 (Thursday, September 23)
•    The intent of Day 0 is to deploy the Statewide and individual team dispatching systems. The WVDHSEM Call Center will issue a full-call out for all teams to respond to the Burnwood area of the New River Gorge National Park, near Fayetteville, WV.  The message will contain the phrase..”This is a drill”.  Each team leader will be asked to contact their individual members and ascertain how many of the team will be responding to the call and relay that information back to the Call Center at (304) 558-5380.

Day 1 (September 24)
•    The staging area will be open all day Friday and registration will begin.  All other activities will begin at 1700hrs.  Dinner will be provided at 1800 hrs. Unless otherwise directed, all events will be conducted at the camping/staging area.
    *1730 Exercise begins:  Scenario is introduced
The following workshops will be offered:
      *1800-1900 Map and Compass Refresher
      *1900-2000 Ready Packs

Day 2 (September 25)
    *0630-0730 breakfast (Pavilion)
    *0800-Briefing/Safety Meeting for all participants.
    *0830 Exercise begins:
  *1430 Unified Command (ICS) shift change….simulates the changing of command to second shift of ICS.
  *Search mission scenarios will end no later than 2000 hrs.

Day 3 (September 26)
  *0730-0830 Breakfast
  *0830-0900 Pack and clean up
  *0900-1100 Hot Wash and AAR
  *1100-???? WVSAR Council Meeting

WVSARCO Meeting

The September meeting of WVSARCO will be held starting at approximately 11am on Sunday September 26, 2010.  The location is the Burnwood Day Use area located within the New River Gorge Recreation Area.  The primary agenda for this meeting is approval of the Bylaws/Constitution and a discussion on Group and Individual standards.

The West Virginia Search and Rescue Excercise 2010 will take place September 24-26th within the boundaries of the New River Gorge National Recreation Area.  The event is open to everyone interested in Search and Rescue.  There is no cost to participate.  Camping and Staging will be at the Burnwood day use facility which is located on the north side of the New River Gorge Bridge.  The entrance is located directly across US19 from the entrance to the overlook visitor center.
